UPDATE ON ESTABLISHING A DESIGNATED ARTS DISTRICT

David Mann, Mid City West Community Council Board member, Arts committee Vice-Chair and the rest of the MCWCC Arts committee have been patiently and diligently working for the last 2 1/2 years with gallery owners, Council District Members, and the stakeholders in Mid City West so there will one day be an established Arts District marking the boundaries of Mid City West.

He goes on to share:

"The Arts District concept defines an area bounded on the north above Beverly Bl, La Brea Ave. on the east, Wilshire Blvd., on the south, and San Vicente on the west.  It is in response to the long distances between galleries, and brands an area that will benefit the art galleries, other retail businesses within the district, and the neighborhood in general.  We anticipate official City signs at either end of each street that signify the district.  Ideally, a small map would be included on these signs.

The district covers two Council districts, CD4 (  Council member Tom LaBonge) and CD5 ( Council member Paul Koretz).  The Arts District idea was first proposed by Douglas Chrismas, owner of Ace Gallery, one of which is located inside the Wilshire Tower located at 5514 Wilshire Blvd. Ace is one of the largest galleries in the world featuring museum quality artworks."

We will keep you all posted including any public meetings to be held.
